Learn to
play Magic the Gathering
|
We get these two questions the most, "Where should new players
begin?" and "Where can they learn to play Magic?" There are a
few different answers. If you have a good internet connection
you can download a demo that will teach you the basic rules of
Magic. It is the demo of the
Microprose computer game.
Wizards of
the Coast used to have a download of the Magic demo

available on their website. It
was a great way to learn the game. It isn't available from
their website anymore, but it does come packed with the 2 player starter set.
If you want to learn how to play with real cards instead of a
computer demo, then try out the
2-player starter sets.
Wizards
has made Portal boxed sets to help new players get into the
game. And there is also a book written to make sure you don't
have any trouble learning the mechanics of the game.
Wizards of
the Coast has made an 8th and 9th Edition/Core Set demos on CD
available. They were to be distributed at Hobby and Gaming
stores.

The best way to learn Magic is to
watch a few games, ask some questions, get a starter deck, and
then just start playing with somebody. If you can't find
anybody to watch then try playing on the Magic Online free
server. You'll need to download and install the
Magic Online game to your pc. If you need a little more
help, try the
Magic Online Academy, where you'll find links to all kinds
of articles about Magic Online. Each
article is written to help players better understand and enjoy
the game.
